You cannot go wrong with Mac & Cheese. Its great for bbq’s, as winter comfort food and kids love it so that’s always a win! My boys request it often, along with chicken cutlets, so I’m sharing my Mac & Cheese recipe here with you today!

Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: American
Keyword: bbq, kids, party food, pasta, side dish

Ingredients

  • 1 lb elbow macaroni
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tbs dried ground mustard
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar
  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 4 slices american cheese
  • 2 tbs breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp oregano

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Cook pasta to package directions (al dente) and drain it. Pour into greased 13×9 dish and toss in 2tbs of butter. Set aside.
  • Melt 1/4 cup of butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in flour and whisk to combine.
  • Add milk and heavy cream. Whisk while it thickens a tiny bit.
  • Whisk in the seasonings and then stir in 1 1/2 cups of the cheddar, 1/2 cup of the mozzarella and the american cheese torn into pieces. Keep stirring until all of the cheese is melted.
  • Pour cheese sauce over the pasta and stir to combine well. It will seem like there's too much sauce, but there's not, don't worry!
  • Sprinkle the rest of the cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top. Sprinkle breadcrumbs and oregano on top of that.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes – it should be bubbly and the cheese should be melted.
