Christmas is getting closer and closer and there’s nothing I love more than a good cup of hot chcoloate! I mean, how can you watch The Polar Express without a mug of Hot, Hot, Hot, Hot Chocolate?!! And yes, I know its really easy to just add some hot water to a packet of hot chocolate mix, but there’s just something about homemade hot chocolate that not only my boys love, but I love making it for them too!

Homemade Hot Chocolate

Why waste your time on those packets of hot chocolate mix when you can have a cup of creamy, chocolatey, homemade hot chocolate?!!

Equipment

  • medium saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup chopped chocolate or chocolate chips
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, add cocoa powder, sugar and heavy cream. Whisk to combine.
  • Whisk in the milk slowly and heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Whisk in chocolate and stir until smooth, then add vanilla extract.
  • Top with your choice of goodies!

Notes

I love to make our hot chocolate festive with some fun toppings like whipped cream, pirouette cookies, gingerbread cookies, fun marshmallows, crushed candy canes and christmas jimmies!  The options are legit endless!
